Working meeting of the the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament) of Ukraine, namely the Committee on Healthcare took place on April 23,2019. The reason of meeting was a discussion of surrogacy law projects which were registered after famous surrogacy scandal in Ukraine which occurred on May 2018.
On the Parliament agenda were provided decisions on the following projects of surrogacy bills:
- «On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine on the protection of the rights of children using auxiliary reproductive technologies (No. 8625)»;
- «On amendments to certain legislative acts of Ukraine regarding the application of auxiliary reproductive technologies (No. 8625-1)»;
- «On introducing amendments to the Fundamentals of Health Care Legislation to Avoid Discrimination of Patients Using Assisted Reproductive Technologies (No. 8625-2)»;
- «On assisted reproductive technologies (Nos. 8629, 8629-1)».
In result of the meeting and consideration, the deputies decided to recommend to the Parliament to reject all proposed bills and theirs alternative bills and at the same time, the Committee members decided to set up a working group on the development of a single reproductive technology bill which should regulate relationship between the parties while assisted reproductive technologies were applied.
